GPP Product Design ServicesGPProjects work to produce bespoke product design including custom circuit design for control systems. We often find that the best way of doing this is to use a microcontroller at the core of the project, with carefully designed circuits around it to perform the functions required. This allows us to offer professional solutions to problems quickly since the circuit board can be sent away for manufacture while the software is being produced and tested. Often clients require our services because they specialise in product design, and require a compact circuit board with the electronic 'brain' to go into the product. We aim to follow a design flow which will allow us to produce equipment which meets our customers requirements and adds in a 'delight' factor. The first and most important task is to fully understand exactly what the electronics are needed for. Even with comprehensive written descriptions and drawings, this may require a visit where, by discussion, drawing sketches and looking at prototypes we aim to capture the spirit of the project so that our contribution to its' success is most effective. We find it useful to write a goal statement that serves as a constant reminder to both GPP and the customer where we are heading. This, along with a list of the project deliverables, form the basis for a tender document. We recognise that often our customers have not used custom embedded software in products before, and they have reservations in commissioning design and development of something that cannot be seen. When we recommend the inclusion of a microcontroller, it is because both design time and costs can be reduced. Also these embedded solutions provide an degree of future proofing and built in flexibility, which is especially important during product development and early parts of the manufacturing cycle. |
