RS232 Serial Stream Data Merge Unit

GPProjects has developed a RS-232 compatible serial stream merge unit, this unit can take in up to four RS232 data inputs and create a single stream output. The hardware has been designed to be as extensible as possible, however we offer a standard version optimised for real time race data collection applications.

OTS Merge is typically used for connecting spectator controls, last controls and finish lines to a commentary system. It is also suitable for use at remote radio controls to create a single data stream for connection to a radio telemetry unit, such as the OTS or OSPREY GSM telemetry systems. The Merge unit has been used at numerous events since 2004 when it was launched.

The Merge unit comes with a simple plug in adaptor provided to convert the output stream to a standard RS422 interface, which is suitable for transmitting the data up to 1km over a standard RJ45 (Ethernet type) cable. This makes the merge particularly useful for connecting a control site to the computer system when it is greater than 30m away (30m being the maximum recommended distance for sening a RS232 signal)
