GPS USB Dongle

GPProjects was contracted by Philips Software to design a prototype USB dongle that was capable of receiving GPS signals and passing the raw data to the host for processing. This was the prorotype for a whole new generation of software GPS solutions.

the dongle has the following features:
1) USB 2.0 Connectivity
2) Custom USB Device Driver
3) GPS Receiver

For software GPS it is imperitive not to loose any of the received data, as well as timestamping every packet to the exact sample number. The firmware that was developed allows these requirements to be met, whilst streaming realtime data at up to 10M samples/second to the host.

The prototype enabled Philips to demonstrate the product concept to consumer electronics partners and in turn lead directly to the release of the Philips USB GPS Receiver.
